Wedding

Good times with Chad and Emily

August 24th, 2010

Chad and Emily. they reminded me a little of my husband and I. She is so vivacious and full of life. Chad is a little quieter with a great sense of humor. What a great match they make. They are truly a great couple to know.

Chad and Emily wanted some outdoor, more rustic shots, interesting colors and textures. As a photographer, one scratches their head and comes up with a plan. We did that. We drove about 30 minutes outside of town and it was so much fun.  I always enjoy the little road trips that I take with my couples, we have a great time in the car. We joked and laughed-laughed a lot.  Talked about their upcoming wedding and all sorts of subjects…

Unfortunately I will not cover their wedding day because I was already booked but they were still able to get us by having Nathan cover their wedding. I will do their engagement, her bridal and their “after the wedding session”. Nathan was there assisting for the engagement session in order to get to know them better and the second shot below is a candid shot that he took while they were posing for me. I can’t remember what we were all laughing about but what a great capture.   I went through and gave it a beautiful antiqued finish and I love the photo.

They are getting married in October at Casa Blanca and it will be a beautiful day because they are truly beautiful people. Emily and Chad, thank you for a lovely experience.

Congratulations to Angela and Tyler

August 20th, 2010

Congratulations to Angela and Tyler. Their wedding was so beautiful.  They got married at the Westlake Presbyterian Church and their reception was held at the Lakeway Hills Country Club. I love it there!!! If you are getting married and are considering a golf course style wedding, that place is beautiful!!!!  The wedding coordinator there, Amber Inberg, is awesome. She is on top of it and she will ensure that your wedding is perfect. I personally, as a photographer, love working with her.

My journey with Angela and Tyler has been nothing but fun and I could not be more honored to know them and to know they chose me for their wedding photography. They have been a joy in every aspect of my life as a photographer. Their wedding was superb.   Everyone was so welcoming, their bridal party was hilarious and their parents were so wonderful.  I love being at weddings like this. I really really do.

Angela and Tyler are so in love and it shows in every image of them.  I love “LOVE” and when I see it, it makes me happy. I personally am “in love” with their photos and I am so pleased that I get to share some of them with you here on my blog. Anyway, Angela and Tyler, I love you both and I wish you nothing but the best in your new life !

Congratulations to Lauren and Ryan

July 18th, 2010

I am blogging about Lauren and Ryan today. Lauren and Ryan were married yesterday, July 17th at One World Theatre.  This was my first time photographing at One World Theatre, I really really liked it.  Here are a couple of photos of the location.

I met Laruen’s mom and dad at J’me and Michael’s wedding in June of 2009 and at the end of that wedding, Lauren’s mom, Michelle, informed me that they would be “honored to have me photograph their daughter’s wedding”.  That statement stuck with me a long time-still does. Anyway, Michelle has become one of those ladies that have touched my soul and I am so thrilled that I was the one chosen to photograph her daughter’s wedding!

So… anyway, Lauren and Ryan are awesome kids. I really enjoyed working with them!  They are so sweet and so fun and I was so excited to be there on their special day.  My favorite two favorite moments were the first time that Humberto, Lauren’s dad, saw his daughter in her dress and  the moment we unveiled her bridal portrait to everyone.  Unveiled? Yes. I did a digital oil painting of her bridal and so we decided to do an unveiling like artists would do in the olden days. We kept a sheet over the portrait, an announcement was made and everyone stood around the portrait and we unveiled it. WOW to see the look of Ryan, her dad, and everyone else’s face when they saw it was priceless. Her grandmother went over the painting and stood there for what seemed an eternity and cried. She was so happy for her granddaughter and that touched me.  I have a special place in my heart for grandparents, I always wanted grandparents but they passed away when by the time I was 5 years old. I secretly adopt any grandparent that I meet :)

Anyway.. enjoy a few photos from the wedding

Chicago session with Marcus and Esosa

July 10th, 2010

Hello everyone!

Today, I wanted to blog about Marcus and Esosa. We photographed their wedding at the Renaissance Hotel here in Austin and we just completed their “after the wedding session”.  I love doing those! It is such low pressure for the bride and groom. No one is around but me..no party screaming their name..no guests looking at them getting their photos taken.  All those things are awesome on the wedding day but they can be distracting to a couple so due to all the excitement on the wedding day, most of my couples like to do an “after the wedding session”

Anyway.. Marcus and Esosa chose Chicago for their session. So they took me to Chicago because they love the city and they love Lake Michigan. July 2nd was the day that they chose and being a genius :) … well, July 1st was my mine and Eric’s 20th wedding anniversary so I thought, Eric should go with me, he can assist me and then we can spend our anniversary in Chicago!

So, Marcus and Esosa are such sweet people and they had so much fun and so did I. Marcus and Esosa…thanks for such a fun session!

Congratulations to Joshua and Brandi!!!!

July 6th, 2010

Hello everyone. So I wrote this blog a while ago and then I guess I never pressed the publish button. I am so sorry. I am in a Barnes and Nobel in Iowa on my way back from doing an “after the wedding” session for another couple in Chicago..

Anyway.. I love these guys and I want everyone to “meet them”. I was so excited to photograph their wedding. Brandi and Joshua are so sweet and their families are amazing and they are so welcoming. Brandi and Joshua got married in the cutest church at the UT campus and then their reception was at the Renaissance Hotel in the Glass Oaks Ballroom.

So, Brandi and Joshua have got to be two of the sweetest people on this planet and I wish they were not moving so far away. I had so much fun at their wedding and I am so pleased that they chose me to photograph their wedding.

Anyway, here are a few photos from their wedding-enjoy! YOU NEED FLASH TO SEE THIS

P.S. On a side note, I love the Austin Renaissance Hotel. Their Glass Oaks Ballroom is sooo gorgeous and I have this special place in my heart for it. I photographed the very first event in that ballroom a few years ago! If you are looking for a gorgeous hotel ballroom, the Renaissance is awesome-call Jenny Hernandez, she will take care of you-she is the best!!!

Holy cow! Me and Grace Ormonde Magazine? Pinch me.

March 29th, 2010

Okay, for anyone who really knows me.. I am a huge GRACE ORMONDE WEDDING STYLE MAGAZINE fan. big fan. total fan. It’s like Vogue for weddings to me…It’s like any of the European Vogues for wedding-yum. So, I blogged a while ago about seeing Grace Ormonde in person at the WPPI event I attended and I NEVER introduced myself and I meant to but I didn’t. oh well, there will be other opportunities.. sigh. Well, I wrote to her. I figured out her email address and emailed her. I let her know how excited I was to have been able to almost meet her and that I was so impressed by her generosity towards the Thirst Relief project in her magazine. I meant every word that I said to her.

Blah Blah Blah… what am I blogging about anyway?? Ok, here goes.

I have been chosen to be one of the photographers on their platinum list. You can’t just get on the list. You have to be invited. From what I understand, Grace sent my information ; after reading the email I had sent to her; to her team member Carolyn, that I had been chosen to be on that list. That was cool. I have wanted to be invited for 2 years-yay.

Anyway, if you are getting married, I highly recommend this magazine, it is so awesome!!!!!!!!!!!! So, here is is…the logo they gave me to me-it is true: I am officially on the list. cool.

See ya!

Maria

Austin Wedding Day February issue is out

January 10th, 2010

Okay, the title gave it away: the new Austin Wedding Day Feb 2010 issue is out. I am excited to share with you that two of my weddings were featured in the magazine and I photographed the cake spread for them as well.

On the cake spread… I made cakes look sexy, ha ha is that possible? No, it isn’t possible, I don’t make cakes…Simon Lee Bakery made cakes look sexy and I photographed them. Mmmmm….cake. If you are an avid reader, you know I don’t really like cake EXCEPT for the white cake with fresh strawberries and a cream cheese icing from Simon Lee Bakery.  AAAAnnnywho…  Here is a photo of one of their cakes.  FYI: Their takes taste amazing as well!

On to the featured wedding section…I have two featured weddings in the magazine.Several of my my brides or grooms or couples get into magazines for this or that, so that is always fun. Here are snippets from the magazine

 J’me  (pronounced Jamie) and Michael:

I loved the couples of mine that the magazine picked for their magazine. The first couple: J’me and Michael. What can I say? I love them!! I talk to them all the time and it is so much fun. Actually it is funny but we (them and I) think they are a younger version of my husband and I. They CRACK me up.  They were married at Villa Antonia last June and we just finished their “after the wedding” session.  We wanted to do it in the winter time .    The funny thing about these two is that when people see their photos all they say is..”they can’t be a REAL couple, they must be models”.  I tell them that and they laugh and they never believe me that I hear that all the time.

Jenny and Jordan:

The other lovely couple that the magazine featured were Jenny and Jordan; are also two of my faves.  I love them both so much. Jordan, he is a very funny guy and he keeps me laughing all the time.  Jenny, she is an amazingly giving and genuine person. I love her like a sister, a sister I never had. They are both awesome and they balance each other out. Jenny is quiet and calm and Jordan is outgoing and effervescent.  Ha ha…I guess they are a lot like Eric and I too.  I am not the calm, quiet one. Yes, I know you already knew that-geez. Oh and…if you are looking for a wedding planner and you want a beautiful venue for your wedding, Jenny is the wedding planner at the Renaissance Hotel!!  That is how I met her so long ago and she chose me as her wedding photographer and now… she is famous ;-)   I am trying to figure out how to get them to pack me in their suitcase and take me to Cuba with them so I can photograph it.  Jenny and Jordan were married at Chapel Dulcinea. Love them too!

Anyway, you can get the magazine at Barnes and Noble (I love that place but I can so rarely go there because I never seem to leave there without losing $50.00 or more…ugh). ALSO, they are having their BRIDAL show on January 31st, 2010 in San Marcos.  If you are a bride, go check it out.

"After the Wedding" Session with Dusty and Allison

November 2nd, 2009

Hi everyone.

So…. I had the best time with Allison and Dusty for the “after the wedding” session!  I love those because we can go wherever we want and do whatever we want and we don’t care if the dress gets a little dirty or anything like that.  Allison and Dusty were married at the Hyatt Lost Pines, outside of Austin and the day before their wedding and it poured!  The ceremony was moved indoors and it was kind of late and by the time all the family photos were done, there was not much light and we didn’t really focus on doing individual photos of them on that day-why?? because we were going to have a fabulous time at an “after the wedding” session.  INDEED.

They are such a joy to be around and I love every minute of it. I look forward to seeing them grow old together (even if that means I am growing old too..).  Allison and Dusty are from Dallas and so we did their session there. I loved it. The day was gorgeous, the light was gorgeous, they were gorgeous–you get my drift, right? AAAAnywho… I am using my blog to show my new product for the first time. I have decided to start adding little snippets of video into my photography :) I am not a videographer, but I personally love  the addition, I hope you like it too. Enjoy!

By the way, if you are one of my outlook subscribers, you will likely not see the video below in your outlook pane, you need to actually go to the internet to my blog site to see it. www.mariabernalphotography.com/blog

Did you like it?

Wedding: Congratulations Jenny and Jordan

September 7th, 2009

So.. I’m behind on my blogging.  A couple of my faithful readers wrote to me and politely asked..why haven’t you blogged?  Well, here is the explanation-HOLY COW, I have had not time and I have forgotten to do it.  does it count if I thought about it? I dunno.  Well, here goes…

Jenny and Jordan both work at the Renaissance Hotel at the Arboretum. Jenny is the wedding coordinator there.  So…if you are looking for a pretty hotel to have your wedding or your reception or both…check them out.  Anyway, it is an honor to be the photographer selected for a wedding coordinator-I think. I mean, think about it. She sees tons of weddings and tons of photographers and she picked me. I think she is so sweet and I just loved being there.

Ok, the wedding was held at Chapel Dulcinea. It was a cloudy day-THANK YOU MOTHER NATURE, I was so happy!  Also, how can you go wrong overlooking the hill country?  Anyway, lovely, intimate, quiet ceremony and then they spiced it up with a reception at Habana restaurant downtown. Let me just say right now..I.LOVE.CUBAN.FOOD.  Yummy, thank you Jenny and Jordan for inviting us to eat with you. mmmm…cuban bread.

That night, Austin had a lovely huge storm and we were outside and all of a sudden, everyone is out to the side of the building to the what used to be a DRY canal and it is RAGING water. woh. We have been in such a drought that I forgot what falling water from the sky looked like.   The rain was good but the wind-I could have done without that. We were under a tent outdoors and the wind ws coming through causing a little mayhem but nothing that we could not handle.

Anyway, the cake was from Simon Lee Bakery and if you have read my blog before, you already know how I feel about Simon Lee Cakes. If you are new to my blog… I eat cake once a year (I don’t even eat cake at weddings..) and it is my birthday and Simon Lee makes my birthday cakes. We ordered mine a couple of weeks ago..mmmmmm.cake. fresh strawberries with cream cheese. omigosh, don’t get me started!!!

Okay okay…yes, I know there are many photographers who read this blog because they want to know some of the things I was using. Okay the lovely piece of equipment for the day is…LITE PANELS. I love those. Why?  Well, with color lighting, we know that if we use flash it tends to wash colored lighting out. I used LITE PANELS Led lights to do some continuous lighting. I shot on 1250 to 1600 ISO. the cake shot below was done with the lite panels too. I just think it can give some pretty lighting. Only thing that I must tell you, if you do not have an assistant holding them in the right place, might be difficult for you to shoot with those. I  like to use continuous light sources when I can.  The shot of them kissing is really put in here as an example of the continuous lighting. using flash may have washed out the green light behind them. With the Lite Panels, I could still aim the light right where I wanted it and keep the green behind them.

Enjoy some photos!

Mmmmm…wedding albums

August 18th, 2009

I love weddings. I love wedding ablums even more. WHY?  Because I love designing stuff! If you are coming to me as a client, you know this and that is why you come here. I love to design an image in the camera and I love to design the story book when the images are done.  I love designing the covers too. They say don’t judge a book by its cover but the cover can sure entice you to open it, doesn’t it?

So, last Friday I get a call from David from Leather Craftsmen who made that book for me and he says to me “Hi, guess what I have?” and I say ” I dunno” and he says “your newest album” and I squeal of excitement because I haven’t seen it yet and then he says “I bought one for myself because I love the way it looks and I want to photograph it and put it on our website AND I want to take it with me to tradeshows and show it off.  Cool.                                                                                                                                                                                                          I like that!  I mean, how cool is it when a vendor who does stuff for photographers all over the place and wants to use your stuff to show off their product?  I like that.

Anyway, here are a few of my latest albums. I love the damask one because I created that and had it imprinted. I love the glossy magazine pages and I love the way it feels when I look at it. I love the new pink and mahogany one too (that was custom made for me and the mahogany leather is sooooo soft!). By the way, the layout in the pink album won best wedding album layout this year at the Texas Professional Photographer’s Association yearly competition in Kerriville.

Hope you like the albums too.
