I love “love”

April 9th, 2010

SPRINGTIME. FLOWERS.LOVE. Can it get any better?

Have you ever been in a restuarant, or on a boardwalk, or some place and watched people?  I do and I love it when I see “love”. No matter the ethnicity, No matter the age, No matter economic status…people who are in love always look good. I might be on to something here… Anyway, one of the reasons why I love to photograph engagement sessions or weddings is because I get to see people in love all the time. I think it is uplifting… :)

Anyway, congratulations to Kendall and Michael as they are getting married at the end of May and we just completed their engagement session and I had such a great time. They are so much fun and we laughed the whole time-EXCEPT for the moment when we saw a HUGE, TEXAN TARANTULA.  There is a potential that I may have screamed like a 5 year old girl..I am admitting to nothing. I just was not expecting it, that’s all. oops.

Here are a few moments in their day with me.

Mischa: Welcome to the world!

July 9th, 2009

Hello everyone.  Okay, so all of you know that I am fairly new to blogging so I am still trying to figure out what exactly to blog about. Well, we all know that I love fashion and I photograph weddings and portraits but I apparently never talk about the people whose portraits I take unless they are fashion models. Why? I dunno :)   So, let’s change it up! I love all the people that I photograph, it is one of my favorite things.  Most people don’t even know it but I photograph kids..newborns to seniors in high school.  I like being someone who can give them a memory of their childhood or at least a glimpse of it.  I am so greatful that my parents took photography very seriously and I have TONS of photos of my childhood and that is what I cherish the most now that I am an adult (well, I think I am an adult, ask my friends :) )

I would like to officially welcome Mischa to the world. Mischa is three weeks old and she was a doll yesterday when we were taking her photos. Here are two photos of her that I absolutely love.

The teddy bear that she is photographed with was her mother’s bear from when she was a little girl, that so that was so awesome! I don’t have any of my toys from when I was a little girl so that was cool to me.

She is an amazing little girl and I want to wish her the best in her life!

Wedding: Congratulations Michael & J'me!

June 15th, 2009

I love weddings. They are so awesome!  I met Michael and J’me last July (I think it was last July when they hired me) and they have become a big part of my life.  On top of photographing their family for their family portrait last August, their engagement session, her bridal session, his groom’s session, and their wedding (we still have an “after the wedding” session to do)-we also talked all the time about this or that so I really got to know them really well. They have been together for eight years, starting out as high school sweethearts and they are so in love!

The bridal session and the groom’s session were both done at Star Hill Ranch (you may have heard me talk about it before-I love it there!).  Here are a couple of photos of J’me and  Michael from their individual sessions there..

We started our day at the Driskill hotel. I would like to give props to the Driskill Hotel.  When the manager on staff found out that J’me was getting married and was going to have 4 bridesmaids, two moms, one flower girl, one makeup artist (Maris Malone Calderon) and one hair artist (Necole Marlow), one photographer (me) and one photographer’s assistant (my right hand girl: Natalie) in that room getting ready, she upgraded the room to a larger one at no additional cost! Well done Driskill hotel! Their service there was impeccable as well. I was very impressed, as I am new to Texas, this was my first time to experience the Driskill, they lived up to their reputation. The staff was awesome, the rooms were gorgeous..  Here is a little view from her gorgeous balcony at the Driskill.

Okay, so you all know I love fashion. So, let’s talk details. The theme for the wedding was: 1940s with an infusion of dragonflies. Her dress had a beautiful dragonfly on the back in the rose, all the bridesmaids had them and dragonflies were all over the flowers :)   GORGEOUS.  The dress from  Alexia Gaveila Bridal. The veil: Unveiled Bridal Designs-of course! Dorene makes veils for almost all of my brides, why? Because she is awesome. She had lovely crystals and flowing white feathers on her veil.  Each of the bridesmaids had custom 1940s inspired headpieces as well (also Unveiled Bridal Designs). Their headpieces were made out of black veiling material with white feathers and they each had a gorgeous jewel on them.  The dress-beautiful. The flowers were done by Visual Lyrics. Check them out as well, they did a fabulous job.

The wedding was at Villa Antonia (I have a lot of weddings there, which is great because it is soo pretty and in fact I have another wedding there next Friday as well). If you are reading this and you are getting married…check it out!!! I truly love it there.  The venue is gorgeous, no one can deny that.  Here is a photo of Villa Antonia, I would like to move in :)

Anyway…the wedding was pretty and the day was super fun.  Here are some photos of J’me and Michael as husaband and wife. Hope you liked this blog.

Editorial Style photoshoot at Star Hill Ranch, Austin Texas

May 30th, 2009

Hi everyone!  I love vintage and I love black and white photography. When the two things combine, it makes me happy :) Anyway, I had the opportunity to do an editorial-style photo shoot for Caitlin this week. Caitlin is an actress and a  model AND is moving to Los Angeles to pursue her dream next month. She needed a couple of new looks for her modeling book before she goes to LA for her modeling agency interviews.   I worked with Caitlin before..in fact, if you look in my blog for the fashion shoot that I shot for the TEXAS WEDDING GUIDE, she is there as well! Anyway, There are several reasons why I am blogging about this shoot today.

1. STAR HILL RANCH-AAAAMAZING.  If you are a bride, go check it out and book them for your wedding. That place is HUGE and AWESOME and I HIGHLY recommend it. If you are a producer, they have a lot of film stuff that happens there as well-book them!

2. I want to show what good hair and makeup crews can do.   Maris Malone Calderon did the makeup and she is awesome. She works with me on so many of my weddings and I recommend her for every makeup need you are looking for! Raquel from Bella Salon did the hair (the red hair because the black hair is a wig).  If you are a bride or a model or anyone who wants your photo done…hair and makeup application can make or break a photo.

The first look I am posting is the vintage, chicago-inspired set of the day. I always tell my students that I prefer not to photoshop my images, I like to think about the final image and do it in the camera first.  So, for the photographers out there… This set was a combination of window light + 1 continuous studio light.  I shot through a bunch of fabric to get the vintage feel that you see here.  Anyway, I truly love photographing this style of photo, it is fun and challenging to get everything the way that you want it and I am so happy with the way that they turned out.  All of these were shot in the “GROOM’S SALOON” at Star Hill Ranch

The second look that I am posting is because I love soft, flowy, romantic  images as well which is why I do so many  ”intimate” shots for my brides as a gift for their future husbands and this type of look is always awesome for that.  No photoshop was needed for these either because the makeup that Maris did was FLAWLESS. These were all shot natural light (I LOOOOVE natural light). The shot with the red door is at the “BRIDE’S HOUSE” at Star Hill Ranch and the one with the white door was shot in front of one of the two Churches at Star Hill Ranch and the one with her laying down was shot at the barn of Star Hill Ranch.

Anyway, I hope that you enjoy the images..until next time!
